Welcome! As I travel across Canada, I like to post pictures to share with you. There will be minimal writing of the events as this is not meant to be a diary blog but a snapshot of what I am doing. Cheers.

Saskatoon- Saskatchewan
Driving long hours from Russell to Saskatoon, I was surprised by the size and the liveliness of the city. I was fortunate to catch the first day of the festival "Taste of Saskatoon" that featured over 30 local restaurants (some chains, some locals). Aside from the mosquito bites, the food was great!
I was also able to see the "Merchant of Venice" at the annual Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan festival. The director interestingly compared the treatment of Shylock to Nazi's treatment of Jewish people during the Second World War.
The morning visit to the Ukrainian museum of Canada was insightful. Ukraine as a country has been through much turbulence with oppression from neighboring countries and yet, its people never gave up their culture and their passion for their country. They fight for their freedom to live their ways.

Manitoba- Winnipeg
Some pictures that may require explanations:
Picture with the black star in round circle.
A view looking down from the second floor of the Winnipeg legislative building's rotunda. The legislative building was designed according to neo-classic style, a combination of Greek, Egyptian, and Roman architecture styles. The black circle always seem closer to you as you walk around the circular rotunda. It is an optical illusion designed by the ancient Greeks (I think it is the Greeks!).
Picture with an old "scroll-like" object in a frame
This is one of the original copies of Magna Carta from 1215 that was issued by King Henry. When the Queen visited Canada in July and specifically when she visited Winnipeg, she brought with her, this original Magna Carta as a gift to the city of Winnipeg.
Picture of me and a Bear
In this picture, I was trying to pretend that I was sharing a straw with the bear (whatever he/she is sipping on).
Picture of Red Bull
Reminded me of something... : )
I am now in Saskatoon. One thing to say is that I had to give up going to Churchill in Manitoba. It required more time and much more $$$ than I expected. I will go back some day though.
Cheers,
David

July 12th 2010Sudbury- watched "Invaders of Mars" at the Science North Planetarium
After the panicky night of driving endlessly in the dark, looking for accommodation because the folk festival was happening at , and landing at a barely bearable inn, traveling to Sudbury was a harder journey than it should be. Fortunately our spirits were uplifted by the beach at Parry Sound and then later again by the surprisingly clean, modern hotel that we lodged ourselves in.
In my own memory, Sudbury is small town with its main streets under heavy construction...with not much to see except the bridge of nations and the Science North center.
